HC Deb 03 May 1991 vol 190 c342W
Mr. Alfred Morris

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will undertake to refund local authorities the cost of any compensation which they may be required to pay in consequence of injunctions obtained in regard to Sunday trading, pending final determination of the issue by the House of Lords in consequence of the decision of the Court of Appeal; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

No. Local authorities receive a substantial contribution to their costs generally through the revenue support grant system. We have no plan to increase this contribution specifically for their enforcement duties under the Shops Act 1950.
