To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total expenditure by the Countryside Commission on press and public relations in 1979–80 and in each following year; and what is his estimate for 1990–91 and budget for 1991–92.

This 1991–92 budget for press and public relations activities is £1,320,500. The increase in expenditure in the years 1990–92 is attributable to additional publicity for the Ordnance Survey bicentenary in 1991.
