HC Deb 03 May 1991 vol 190 c336W
Mr. Allen McKay

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will discuss with representatives of the Association of Chief Police Officers and the secured by design group ways of raising standards and specifications in house and office buildings to make them more secure from illegal entry;

(2) if he will now consider introducing higher specifications and standards in the construction of houses in order to ensure a greater level of security from illegal entry;

(3) if he will discuss with representatives of British police authorities the standards of doors and windows fitted in new and existing houses and the vulnerability to illegal entry of such doors and windows.

Mr. Yeo

My Department is currently funding research into the effectiveness of security measures in buildings and the results will be made available to the British Standards Institution, which is the forum through which interested parties can contribute to the debate on the development of British standards and the United Kingdom's input to European standards.
