HC Deb 03 May 1991 vol 190 c362W
Mr. Thorne

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether there are any plans to increase the baggage allowance for passengers flying on British airlines to and from British airports to match those of other countries.

Mr. McLoughlin

Baggage allowances are not fixed by the Government but are a commercial matter for the airlines themselves to determine, subject only to being filed with the Civil Aviation Authority as part of the normal tariff approval procedures. I am not aware that the baggage allowances set by British carriers are significantly different from those of their foreign competitors.
