§ Mr. FisherTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport how much land his Department owns in London; and how much of that land is unused.
§ Mr. ChopeThe Department of Transport owns 220 miles of trunk road in the London area. In addition it has acquired 1,203 dwellings, 103 business premises and approximately 15.5 acres of land in connection with trunk road improvement schemes in the area.
At present 142 of these dwellings are vacant; 66 are now surplus and are to be sold, 61 are due to be demolished soon and 15 are in the process of being let.
Twenty of the business premises are vacant and tenants are being sought.
Of the land acquired for road schemes, 11.5 acres are undeveloped; 2.2 acres have been let and 1.8 acres are now surplus to requirements and are to be sold.
