§ Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent initiatives have been taken by Her Majesty's Government to support refugees abroad.
§ Mrs. ChalkerHer Majesty's Government continue to be a major supporter of the work of international refugee organisations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. We also provide funding for a large number of British non-governmental organisations working in this field as well as other United Nations bodies such as the United Nations Border Relief Organisation on the Thai/Cambodia border.
In 1990 our refugee assistance overall amounted to some £36.7 million. We expect at least to maintain this level of support in 1991.
