HC Deb 28 March 1991 vol 188 c538W
Ms. Quin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in his review of local government to date, he has considered the introduction of a regional tier of government in England; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Key

As my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment made clear in his statement to the House on 21 March, it seems likely that we shall move to a larger number of unitary authorities in England. The creation of a regional tier of local government does not feature in the Government's thinking.
