HC Deb 26 March 1991 vol 188 c363W
Mr. Bernie Grant

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether any assessment has been made of the economic consequences of the Gulf war on Commonwealth countries in Africa, central and south-east Asia and the Caribbean; when he next expects to meet the Secretary General of the Commonwealth to discuss these matters; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

We have looked carefully into the economic consequences of the Gulf crisis on major recipients of British aid, taking into account the analytical work done by the IMF, World bank and others. The Secretary of State and I both meet the Secretary General of the Commonwealth from time to time to discuss matters of concern to Commonwealth members.
