§ Mr. FallonLeicestershire's returns show that it spent some £131 million cash on education in 1979–80, and some £289 million cash in 1988–89, the latest year for which figures are available. At 1988–89 prices this represents some £247 million in 1979–80 and £289 million in 1988–89, an increase of 17 per cent.
