HC Deb 21 March 1991 vol 188 c207W
Mr. Ashby

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much was spent on education in Leicestershire in(a) 1979 and (b) the latest year for which figures are available, adjusted for inflation.

Mr. Fallon

Leicestershire's returns show that it spent some £131 million cash on education in 1979–80, and some £289 million cash in 1988–89, the latest year for which figures are available. At 1988–89 prices this represents some £247 million in 1979–80 and £289 million in 1988–89, an increase of 17 per cent.
