§ Dr. Michael ClarkTo ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what expenditure is expected in 1990–91 on the residual obligations of British Shipbuilders.
§ Mr. LeighArising out of settlement of an outstanding claim by Trafalgar House, British Shipbuilders now has a liability of £17 million not covered by the provision in the 1990–91 supply estimates. Parliamentary approval for the necessary payment to BS will be sought through a supplementary supply estimate on class IV vote 2 in 1991–92. Pending that approval, this expenditure, which is urgent, will be met by a repayable advance from the Contingencies Fund.
