HC Deb 14 March 1991 vol 187 c684W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many cases of food poisoning have been attributed to the consumption of smokies; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 15 February 1991]: There have been no recorded cases of food poisoning attributed to the consumption of smoked haddock. Fish hygiene proposals are under discussion in the EC, and we have made every effort to ensure that the final measure will be practical and realistic: there is no reason to believe that the proposed measure threatens in any way the future of the fish smoking industry.
