HC Deb 13 March 1991 vol 187 c550W
Mr. Wareing

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he expects the United Kingdom balance of trade to be in surplus.

Mr. Mellor

[holding answer 13 March 1991]: As domestic demand pressures have eased, the visible trade deficit has fallen sharply. In the three months to January 1991 the deficit was £3.1 billion compared with a peak of £6.6 billion in the second quarter of 1989. A revised forecast will be presented on Budget day.
