HC Deb 11 March 1991 vol 187 c392W
Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will introduce legislation to ensure that no accident-damaged motor vehicle which has been written off by an insurance company can be imported into Northern Ireland, repaired and/or re-registered and sold without first undergoing an MOT examination.

Mr. Hanley

No. Decisions about write-offs are taken on economic grounds and many vehicles involved in road accidents are not written off. It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that his or her vehicle is roadworthy.
