To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department from which prison Lydia A. Gyamifi escaped on 8 February 1988; and whether she has since been recaptured.

Lydia A. Gyamifi absconded from Her Majesty's prison Askham Grange and is still unlawfully at large.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his answers to the right hon. Member for Swansea, West of 28 February and 1 March,Official Report, columns 568 and 648, on recapture of escapees, which of the escapees were on drug-related offences, which of the escapees were in debt to the courts; and which escapees' passports are in the possession of his Department.

The 10 women concerned had all been convicted of drug offences. None is known to have been in debt to the courts at the time of absconding from prison. The passports of five of the 10 women are in the possession of the Home Office.
