HC Deb 11 March 1991 vol 187 cc339-40W
Ms. Armstrong

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what advice his Department gives to TASC—the teaching as a career unit—regarding the recruitment and employment of teachers with disabilities;

(2) what advice he is seeking on the recruitment and employment of teachers with disabilities in preparation for new guidelines for LMS;

(3) what advice he has given to local education authorities regarding the employment of teachers with disabilities.

Mr. Fallon

The Department's guidance to employers, teacher training institutions and other bodies is contained in circular 1/88, "Physical and mental fitness to teach of teachers and of entrants to teacher training". My right hon. and learned Friend sees no need for any further advice to TASC or to LEAs or in connection with LMS regarding the recruitment or employment of teachers with disabilities.

Ms. Armstrong

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the proportion of teachers employed by each local education authority who are disabled.
