HC Deb 05 March 1991 vol 187 c110W
24. Dr. Michael Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the spending per head of population on the NHS, now and in 1979; and what are the figures in real terms.

Mr. Dorrell

In 1990–91 planned expenditure per head of population in the United Kingdom is £511. The equivalent figure in 1978–79 was £144 or £365 at today's prices. This is a real terms increase of 40 per cent.
