§ Lord Burtonasked Her Majesty's Government:
When they intened to make an order under Section 25(1)(c) of the Rivers (Prevention of Pollution) (Scotland) Act 1951 as up-dated by subsection (2) of Section 33 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974, to prevent discharge from boats into inland waterways such as Loch Ness.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Scottish Office (Lord Strathclyde)Section 25(1)(c) of the Rivers (Prevention of Pollution) (Scotland) Act 1951 and section 33 (not yet commenced) of the Control of Pollution Act 1974, as amended by Schedule 23 of the Water Act 1989, enable river purification authorities to make bye-laws prohibiting or regulating the keeping or use on waters in the area of the authority of vessels, of a kind specified in the bye-laws, provided with sanitary appliances. Decisions regarding the introduction of such arrangements in any area are for the relevant river purification authority. The Government plan to bring Section 33 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 into effect shortly. In the meantime, however, it remains 67WA open to river purification authorities to make such bye-laws under the powers available to them in the 1951 Act.
