§ Mr. Gareth WardellTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has on the proportion of new cars available for purchase in the United Kingdom with fuel-injection systems which are fitted with an inertial safety switch.
§ Mr. ChopeIt is estimated that in excess of 90 per cent. of fuel-injected vehicles manufactured in the United Kingdom are fitted with a device, not necessarily inertial, that will automatically shut off the fuel delivery in the event of a substantial impact. Proportions of imported fuel injected vehicles fitted with such devices are not known, although most importers will have been issued with guidelines recommending their use.
