To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information he has of the number of local education authorities which have now discontinued the provision of school meals on an authority-wide basis; and if he will list the authorities.

All local education authorities in England are obliged to provide a free school meal for any pupil whose family is on income support. In January 1990, the latest date for which information is available, some paid meals were also provided in all authorities.
