HC Deb 26 June 1991 vol 193 c482W
Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement regarding the proposed dedicated satellite television sex channel.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

If the proposed channel were to be uplinked from the United Kingdom, it would be subject to the licensing regime of the Independent Television Commission. This requires licensees to ensure, inter alia, that nothing is included in their programmes which offends against good taste or decency or is likely to be offensive to public feeling. If the service were to be uplinked from another European country, it would need to comply with international instruments which prohibit the broadcasting of pornographic programmes.
