HC Deb 26 June 1991 vol 193 cc480-1W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to his answer of 23 May,Official Report, column 593, to the hon. Member for Don Valley, if he will make it his practice to keep central records of national health service patients who have been discharged from hospital, and within three months required subsequent hospitalisation for the same or a different but related complaint.

Mr. Dorrell

There are no plans to do so. Patients may be re-admitted for a variety of reasons. Work carried out on using re-admission data to develop an outcome measure has encountered considerable difficulties in defining the necessary data and interpreting them.
