To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the reasons for banning the Soviet research ship Akademick Boris Petrov from British waters.

Certain elements of the research programme were unacceptable, particularly regarding research in United Kingdom internal waters and in areas where our defence and security interests may be affected.
