Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what information his Department provided to the management of Ferranti plc relating to the activities of International Signal Corporation prior to its acquisition by Ferranti plc.

The Ministry of Defence was informed of the impending acquisition which was a matter for the commercial judgment of the companies involved.

MOD officials had communication with the then chairman and chief executive of Ferranti from the summer of 1988. The nature of the communications are confidential to the Department and the company.
