To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the benefits to the United Kingdom of the European Community Perifra programme on defence industry diversification.

[holding answer 13 June 1991]: The Government have applied to the Commission for grant of £4 million from the Perifra initiative. The initiative includes, but is not confined to, the purpose indicated by the hon. Member.
