HC Deb 12 June 1991 vol 192 cc605-6W
Sir Eldon Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when he expects to complete the lessons of the Gulf weapons and tactics used by Her Majesty's Forces in the recent war.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Detailed analysis of the campaign and the conclusions to be drawn from it is continuing, and will not be complete for some time.

Sir Eldon Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he is now able to state how many of the seven Tornado aircraft lost in the Gulf war were shot down by enemy action; and how many crashed after flying into the ground without being hit by hostile fire.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Of the six Tornados lost in action during the Gulf conflict, it now seems likely that two aircraft were lost to anti-aircraft fire and a third to a surface-to-air missile at medium level, but detailed investigations are continuing.
