§ Mr. AllenTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish figures showing for 1991–92 the numbers of pensioners who(a) pay no income tax, (b) pay income tax at the basic rate only and (c) pay income tax at the highest rate.
§ Mr. MaudeThe latest estimates are that about 7.3 million individuals aged over 65 will pay no income tax, 2.6 million will pay income tax at the basic rate only and 150,000 will pay at the higher rate.
