To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average time taken for an accident/emergency patient to be taken by ambulance from East Lothian to Edinburgh royal infirmary; what is the average daily number of such journeys; and whether any patients have died doing such journeys since the closure of the Roodlands casualty unit.

On average, 45 minutes and nine journeys each day. Roodlands casualty unit did not treat patients suffering major trauma or life-threatening conditions and such patients were always conveyed to Edinburgh. There has been no change therefore in the journey time for such patients. The Scottish ambulance service has no evidence that any patient has died because of the journey time to hospital.
