(2) what aid Her Majesty's Government have given to aid agencies with respect to the situation in Ethiopia in 1991; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerIn 1991 we have so far provided £22.6 million in bilateral humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia. I expect to provide more during the course of this year. Our aid is channelled through mutilateral and British voluntary agencies.
In the financial year 1990–91, we provided £3.3 million in bilateral development assistance to the Ethiopian Government. I am prepared to provide a broadly similar amount in 1991–92, provided conditions allow. In addition, in 1990–91, we channelled £350,000 through British voluntary agencies under the ODA's joint funding scheme for ongoing projects.
