HC Deb 06 June 1991 vol 192 cc278-9W
Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans for the introduction of continental gauge track for the carriage of freight between the United Kingdom and the continent.

Mr. Freeman

British Rail has no such plans. Its commercial judgment is that low-platform wagons offer the most cost-effective means of conveying continental-size containers and swap bodies on the British rail network.
