Employment Action Programme

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how the employment action programme will be funded.

Mr. Jackson

Parliamentary approval of this new expenditure will be sought in a winter supplementary estimate for the Employment Department programmes and central services vote (class VI, vote 1) in respect of England and Wales and for the Scottish Office training programmes and industrial support, Scotland vote (class XV, vote 3) in respect of Scotland. Pending that approval, urgent expenditure estimated at up to £8 million will be met by repayable advances from the Contingencies Fund.
