HC Deb 24 July 1991 vol 195 c579W
Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans Her Majesty's Government have to reduce the incidence of terrorism.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

Her Majesty's Government are fully committed to tackling terrorism, and we regard it as essential that the police should have the resources and powers they need in carrying out this difficult task. The Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1989 provides a legislative framework and the annual report on the operation of the Act helps us to keep under constant consideration whether the powers contained within it are suitable and adequate. The Government are also committed to working to combat terrorism, in co-operation with other countries, both bilaterally and multilaterally, for example through the Trevi group in Europe.
