§ 16. Mr. BowisTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what steps he is taking to improve the take-up by people with disabilities of the benefits to which they are entitled.
§ Mr. ScottThe increase in take-up of benefits by disabled people and their carers over the last 12 years demonstrates our continuing commitment to ensuring that people receive what they are entitled to. For example, there are now three times as many people in receipt of attendance allowance as there were in 1979, and take-up of mobility allowance has increased sevenfold over the same period.
We intend to build on this strong position in publicising the introduction of disability living allowance and disability working allowance next year. We shall involve disabled people and their organisations fully in the preparatory work for the publicity campaigns to ensure effective take-up of these benefits.
