§ Mr. Needham[holding answer 16 July 1991]: Road traffic accident statistics in Northern Ireland are collected and collated by the Royal Ulster Constabulary. The most recent figures available are for the calendar year 1989 when 11 accidents were attributable to tyre defects out of a total of 7,199. Figures for 1990 are expected to be available in mid-August.
