§ Mr. Gregory
To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many traffic accidents for the last 12 months for which figures are available were tyre related; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Needham
[holding answer 16 July 1991]: Road traffic accident statistics in Northern Ireland are collected and collated by the Royal Ulster Constabulary. The most recent figures available are for the calendar year 1989 when 11 accidents were attributable to tyre defects out of a total of 7,199. Figures for 1990 are expected to be available in mid-August.
