To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how the Government responded to the call in last year's European Commission Green Paper on standardisation for national Governments to put more resources into promoting and supporting standardisation at national level.

[holding answer 15 July 1991]: The Government continue to provide substantial funding to the British Standards Institution and, in the single market campaign, emphasise the importance of industry contributing to European standards work through BSI.

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what was the amount of funding given by his Department to the British Standards Institution in each of the years from 1979 to 1990, and what is the amount planned to be given in 1991 and 1992.
