To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what his estimate is of the cost of completing the A470 Pentrebach to Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil.

The estimated total cost of the A470 Pentrebach to Cefn Coed scheme given in the 1991 supplement to "Roads in Wales: Progress and Plans for the 1990s" is £28 million at November 1989 prices.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his Department's estimate of the expenditure on the A470 Pentrebach to Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil in 1991–92, 1992–93 and 1993–94.

Actual expenditure will depend on the speed with which engineering design and statutory procedures can be completed and the timing of the start of main works. A main works start is planned before April 1994, and it is not possible to give a more precise date at this stage. A realistic breakdown of expenditure between the financial years requested cannot be given.
