HC Deb 15 July 1991 vol 195 c43W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is Her Majesty's Government's policy on commission rates charged when Scottish banknotes are exchanged for Bank of England notes within the United Kingdom.

Mr. Maples

The charging of fees for the exchange of banknotes is a matter for the banks and their customers. Some banks will exchange Scottish banknotes free of charge whereas others find it necessary to recover costs of repatriation and other overheads connected with handling notes which are not regularly reissued.
