To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of parcels addressed to prisoners held in high security prisons are opened and searched by prison staff before delivery.

The current instruction to governors at all establishments on the handling of inmates' correspondence requires all incoming parcels to be opened by a member of staff in the presence of the inmate and examined for illicit enclosures.
