§ Mr. DunnachieTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what response his Department has given to the 1991 pay claim submitted by the National Union of Civil and Public Servants on behalf of its members; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. Gillian ShephardThe pay of staff represented by the National Union of Civil and Public Servants is set by negotiation under the terms of the pay agreement with that union. This year's offer was for a 7.8 per cent. across-the-board increase, plus other increases, amounting to 0.2 per cent., giving a total pay bill increase of 8 per cent. The offer has been accepted by the NUCPS following a ballot of their membership, and the new rates are now in payment.
