HC Deb 12 July 1991 vol 194 c521W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many British hostages are presently believed to be held in Lebanon; what are their names; on what dates each of them was taken hostage; what information he has about organisations involved in these kidnappings; what is the latest information he has about the whereabouts of the hostages; what steps are being taken to ensure their immediate release; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We believe there are three British hostages being held in Lebanon. Mr. John McCarthy was kidnapped on 17 April 1986; Mr. Terry Waite on 20 January 1987; and Mr. Jack Mann on 12 May 1989. We do not have firm information on which organisations were involved in the kidnappings, or on where in Lebanon the hostages are currently held. We continue to make every effort to secure the release of the hostages, and remain in close touch with all parties we believe may be able to help in achieving this goal.
