To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the type 2076 sonar programme.

Sonar 2076 is the programme to update the sonar suites of the Swiftsure and Trafalgar class submarines. This programme will ensure that these submarines remain effective and capable throughout their lifespan. We have recently awarded contracts for the project definition phase of the programme to Marconi Underwater Systems Limited and Ferranti-Thomson Sonar Systems Ltd.
