Training and Enterprise Councils

Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the names of the chairpersons of training and enterprise councils he has appointed in Wales, stating the salaries payable to them and, for each of them, the experience, qualifications and interests which qualified them for appointment.

Mr. David Hunt

Training and enterprise council boards are responsible for the appointment of their chair persons. To be eligible a chair person must be a chief executive of a company; a top operational manager at local level of a major company; or the senior partner in a professional partnership. The appointment is unpaid. The Welsh TEC chairmen are as follows:

Mid Glamorgan Mr. John W. Phillips (Managing Director, Reliance-BarkerDavies Ltd.).

West Wales Mr. Robert C. Hastie (Chairman. Bernard Hastie and Company Ltd.).

North East Wales Mr. John Troth (Managing Director, Dennis Ruabon Ltd.).

South Glamorgan Mr. Roger G. Helliwell (Group Director, William Cowlin and Son Ltd.).

North West Wales Mr. Trefor Jones (Chief Executive, Pilkington Optronics Division).

Gwent Mr. Geoff Canning (Works Manager, British Steel Tinplate).

Powys Mr. David Margetts (Chairman, Elkay Electrical Manufacturing Company Ltd.).
