§ Sir Teddy TaylorTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) if he will raise with the Government of Syria the alleged involvement of Syrian terrorists, before their arrest, in the Lockerbie plane bombing; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he has sought to raise with the Government of Libya the alleged involvement of Libyan nationals or residents in the Lockerbie bombing.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe investigation into the Lockerbie disaster is being pursued by the Dumfries and Galloway constabulary, under the direction of my noble and learned Friend the Lord Advocate. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office stands ready to assist the constabulary in any way it requires in pursuit of international aspects of the investigation.
§ Mr. Teddy TaylorTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) who authorised the senior official of his office to make statements about the Lockerbie bomb link reported inThe Sunday Times of 30 June;
(2) who authorised the spokesman from his office to make the statements on Libya attributed to that official on BBC radio and BBC television news on 28 June; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe line taken by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesmen in response to media inquiries has consistently been that they cannot comment on a continuing police investigation.
