§ Mr. CartwrightTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will classify the Independent Unions Training Council as an appropriate body to approve training under paragraph 17 of the ACAS code of practice—time off for trade union duties and activities; and whether he has any plans to include the Independent Unions Training Council in paragraph 17 of subsequent editions of the code.
§ Mr. ForthParagraph 17 of the ACAS code of practice "Time Off for Trade Union Duties and Activities" consists of a restatement of statutory provisions contained in section 27 of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978. It would, therefore, be inappropriate for ACAS to amend its code of practice in the manner suggested. The Government have no present plans to amend the relevant legislation.
