§ Mr. Alfred MorrisTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is his policy towards the recommendations of the "Disability Manifesto: An Agenda for the 1990s", a copy of which has been sent to him, which relate to his Department; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FallonMy right hon. and learned Friend will give careful consideration to the education recommendations in the manifesto. His general view is that the position of pupils with special educational needs is adequately protected by the Education Act 1981 which requires that wherever possible such children should be taught in ordinary schools. The Department is not aware of any widespread failure by LEAs to meet their various obligations under the Act.
