§ Mr. BaldryGovernment advice since 1978 has been that building development is inadvisable on former landfill sites known to be emitting methane. Figures for developments on former landfills are not collected centrally. However, since 1988 local planning authorities have been required to consult waste disposal authorities on applications for development within 250 m of landfills.
