The level of outstanding consumer debt at the end of the third quarter 1990 was £49.6 billion. Due to changes in coverage, comparable figures are not available for 1982. Those which are available are in the September 1982 issue ofBusiness Monitor SDM6 "Credit business of finance houses and other specialist consumer credit grantors".
