To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what discussions he has had with the British Sandwich Association concerning its quality assurance scheme; and if he will make a statement.

The association has recently informed my hon. Friend the Member for Penrith and the Border (Mr. Maclean) of the codes of practice that it is introducing for manufacturers and retailers of sandwiches. In his reply, my hon. Friend has acknowledged the efforts which the association has made since its formation in 1990 to raise safety and hygiene standards in the sandwich industry.
