Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what were the outturn figures for(a) all local government expenditure and (b) local government education expenditure in every year since 1979 at 1990–91 prices.

1. The figures in column 1 are inclusive of loan and leasing charges while those in column 2 are exclusive of such charges as separate loan and leasing charges for education are not readily available.

2. The figures are at final outturn to 1988–89, provisional outturn for 1989–90 and budget estimate for 1990–91.

3. All years have been converted to 1990–91 prices by means of the Treasury GDP deflator (October 1990).
