HC Deb 23 January 1991 vol 184 c225W
33. Mrs. Maureen Hicks

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assessment has been made of new business investment in the black country.

Mr. Leigh

No official survey of new business investment in the four black country boroughs of Wolverhampton, Sandwell, Dudley and Walsall has been undertaken. Since the beginning of 1988 my Department has, however, committed £19.7 million to industry in the black country in the form of regional selective assistance grants. This figure is associated with an overall investment of £187.3 million and the creation and safeguarding of nearly 10,000 jobs.
