§ Mr. Alfred MorrisTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will specify the table in the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys reports which supports the statements of Ministers in Standing Committee E that the average extra costs of people who are not independently mobile are less than half of the average extra costs of those who are unable or virtually unable to walk; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ScottThe information is not contained in the tables published in the OPCS reports but is derived from a detailed analysis of the survey data. That analysis indicates that those people already in receipt of mobility allowance had extra costs, on average, of some £13 per week; the group of people who are not independently mobile, whom we expect to receive the new lower rate mobility component, had extra costs, on average, of £6 per week.
